LGBTQ+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer. The plus represents a myriad of gender and sexual identities welcomed in the community such as questioning, asexual, intersex, pansexual, and more.
Queer was originally used as a derogatory term against LGBT people, but it has been reclaimed by the LGBTQ+ community as an umbrella term referring to anyone who identifies as a gender or sexual identity that is outside what is considered the "norm" (Barker 11)
